Ibn Battuta Mall has had issues with water ingress through the roof for many years. The results led to damaged stock, slip hazards and the potential for structural damage & fire hazards. The mall management understood that the proposed system of a tight weaved polypropylene geotextile with 1.5mm of Corroprufe Quickspray was the only solution that provides a tough, seamless waterproofing layer that does not need further protection, or removal of the existing system, therefore minimising disruption to the mall. Corroprufe Quickspray is a Polyurea Hybrid 2-part coating system from VIP Germany, distributed by Corrotech Construction Chemicals, VIP’s exclusive distributor for the UAE. The Corroprufe Quickspray was applied by specialist applicator Anticor Ltd, who understood the complexity of detailing this difficult area, particularly around the M&E equipment on the roof.
Processing took place in the following steps:
1. The existing failed membrane was well cleaned.
2. The geotextile was layed out over the existing membrane, overlapped and cut to detail.
3. Corroprufe Quickspray was applied at 1.5mm on top of the geotextile using plural component heating mixing equipment.
4. The area was flood tested for 36 hours after the application, with no ingress detected. Further areas have now been given approval for this system.
