The customer Conoco-Phillips from Weybridge in Surrey wanted to protect the field joint connectors made from steel and GRP plastic with a tough, water-vapour-tight, sea water proof and highly abrasion resistant coating. VIP advised the use of QuickSpray Industrial to their approved applicator PPC from Keighley. After shotblasting the steel, the connectors were masked off. Then the steel surface was cleaned, afterwards primed with the QuickPrime 1K universal PU primer for superior bond to the substrate and then coated using a Graco Reaktor HX-P2 hotspray machine.
A film thickness of at least 3mm throughout was achieved easily and after just 1 hour the connectors were prepared for shipping on site.
