The customer Conoco-Phillips from Weybridge in Surrey wanted to protect the field joint connectors made of steel and GRP plastic with a durable, water vapor-tight, seawater-resistant and highly abrasion-resistant coating. VIP recommended the use of QuickSpray Industrial to their approved processor, PPC of Keighley. After the steel was shot peened, the connections were taped. The steel surface was then cleaned, then primed with QuickPrime 1K PU universal PU primer for excellent adhesion to the substrate and then coated using a Graco Reactor HX-P2 hot spray machine. A continuous layer thickness of at least 3 mm was achieved and after only 1 hour the connectors were ready for dispatch to the construction site. The area per connector was 12 m².
